Pack your instrument in a sturdy box, with at least 2 – 3 inches of bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts all around. Crumpled paper does not count in an insurance claim. The instrument should be “suspended” in the cushioning material. Do not use under-sized boxes, as any potential insurance claim might be denied. Each of the major carriers has a page of instructions on their respective websites, for more detail. Too large a box is safer than too small, but will cost more to ship. Check with your individual insurance company to see if the instrument is covered “in transit”, or buy insurance from the carrier.
Oftentimes, I have to supply boxes and other packaging for the return trip, to be up to specs. I may need to add a small fee to cover my expenses.
I will need this information with your instrument:
Your name and address for return shipping.
Carrier preference and insurance amount needed for return shipping.
A brief description of services wanted.
Contact info (phone and/or e-mail) if you would like an estimate first.
